World Bank:
Progress through partnership
The World Bank Committee at ColtsMUN XIV is designed to have delegates from around the world work together to promote global economic development while striving to create a more sustainable world. In this committee, two major topics will be discussed: the development of rural communities and the transition to green economies. Rural communities all over the world are still fighting against poverty and struggle with limited infrastructure, weak healthcare and education systems, food insecurity and a general lack of economic opportunities. Meanwhile, countries all over the world are trying to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and deal with the consequences of climate change without hindering economic growth and employment. The World Bank supports countries in developing infrastructure, strengthening agriculture, expanding the access to basic services and investing in renewable energy while preparing for the consequences of climate change. In the committee, the delegates will have to try to find a balance between economic development and environmental protection, between international cooperation and the individual needs of single countries.

Many rural communities lack basic services and face severe levels of poverty due in part to weak infrastructure, limited access to health and education services, and lack of connectivity to markets and technologies. Topic one will discuss how the World Bank and the rest of the international community can support efforts to develop rural areas while creating economic opportunities, improving quality of life and protecting the environment.

There are many countries struggling to reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions while attempting to keep a handle on economic growth and employment. Topic two will examine how countries can use renewable energy, climate funding, new technology, and World Bank funding to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels while keeping down the cost of energy to make sure it is reliable.
